The Old Barn |
The Old barn (The old Stables from Lodge Farm.) at Hornbys corner skippool Rd has a Key Stone dating back to the 1700s,Now covered by a Clock.
I used to drive a Tractor for Cliff Morris Agriculture Contractor at the farm at the corner of Woodlands& Rosendale, kept cows in what is now Hatfield Close,(I wonder if it was called Hatfield because Cliff was never seen without his battered trilby).

Was used for a short time by a Farrier in the 80s the 3 horse stalls were there in the 1930s. At present has been turned into a holiday home, prior to that was used by Tommy Sewell an old friend of mine. He lived next door to my Grans, he had geese, kept corn, feed, ect; in the old stable. In the 1940s it was used by Alf Braid (another Braid that name keeps cropping up)who had a poultry farm at the rear when I was 11 or 12yrs old I used to collect eggs and let the hens out of app;20 cabins before i went to school, then feed, grit, and water in the evening before locking them up for night, 7 days a week for the princely sum of 5 shillings which was not a bad rate in those days.
Talk about the good old days.
